Anarchy
Absence of organized government
Monarchy
Government in which a single person (monarch) rules until death or abdicates the throne
Absolute monarchy: Government where monarch has absolute power
Constitutional monarchy: Government recognizes monarch but requires them to abide by laws of greater constitution
Ex: Prime Ministers
Oligarchy
Power that is held by a small, elite group
Member ascends to position of power because of military might or economic power
Very difficult for middle/lower class to advance socioeconomic status
Dictatorship
Power is held by a single person or very small group that wields complete/absolute authority over government and population
Ex: Kim Jong-Un
Charasmatic Dictatorship
Totalitarian Dictatorship: more oppressive and attempts to control all aspects of subjects lives
Democracy
Strives to provide all citizens with equal voice/vote in determining state policy, regardless their status
U.S. is not a pure democracy because it is constitution based- elected representatives
Representative Democracy: Citizens elect representatives to promote policies that favor their interests
Rational- Legal Authority
