From Stone Age to the Celts

Stone age men were the first people that migrated to britain

because of the rising water level britain separated from Europe

Stone age men started living on hunting and fishing.

around 4000 BC Neolithic immigrants arrived in britain and started to cultivate the land

around 2500 BC the population was divided into tribes

around 600 BC the celts arrived from central europe

they created a celtic-british culture which still exists today

From Roman Britain to the Norman Conquest and feudalism

Julius caesar arrived in 55 BC

the romans built streets everywhere

they built the Hadrian's wall in order to defend themselves from the scottish

the romans left in AD 410

the island was invaded by the Anglo saxon invaders

the Anglo saxon were able to defeat the vikings that arrived from the 8th century

after the battle of Hatings william duke of normandy became king of england (william first)

The normans unified england and introduced the feudal system (nobles knights and serfs)

the feudal system was eliminated with magna carta

the magna carta is a document that limited the king's power and recognized fundamental rights for the barons

the magna carta was written 1215

it was an agreement between the king and the barons who owned the land

some rights were given to the community

there were also reforms of law justice

over the centuries human rights laws were extended to all citizens

the magna carta established a council of barons
