Chemoprophylaxis
Using ISONIAZID (INH)
Treatment by
DOTS
First 2 months cd intensive course
which daily dose of 4 drugs (INH,
Rifampicin. Ethambutol, and Pyrazinamide) are used
The next 4 months cd maintenance course
at which 2 drugs are used
twice weekly (INH, Rifampicin)
Meningitis
Chemoprophylaxis
Rifampicin 600mg twice daily for 2 days and half the dose for children.
Treatment
-Penicillin is the drug of choice Should be started immediately on clinical bases and before
laboratory diagnosis
Diarrheal diseases and dysenteries
Specific treatment
ORT (Fluid Replacement Therapy)
IV rehydration is usually needed in severe dehydration
because of shock or coma
the Carriers of Enteric Fevers
For chronic gall-bladder carrier
ampicillin for 1-3 months can be tried
if there not three negative successive samples
cholecystectomy is indicated
For chronic urinary carrier
surgical management when indicated may
remove the Pathological focus of infection
HCV
treatment by
interferon and ribavirin used in combination
AIDS
Pre exposure prophylaxis
The pill (brand name Truvada)
contains
two medicines (tenofovir and emtricitabine)
Post exposure prophylaxis
4 weeks course of 2 antiretroviral
drug therapy
3 for severe cases, immediately within hours
