Fatigue
Effects of high mental workload:
- Degrade performance
- Buildup of fatigue; Prolong period of performance without rest
Sleep Disruption
Sleep disruption incorporates 3 factors:
- Sleep deprivation/sleep loss (<7-9 hours)
- Performance at the low point of circadian rhythms in the early hours of the morning
- Disruption of those circadian rhythms from jet lag or shift work
Sleepiness - Increased blinks, eye closures, & brief durations of microsleep (nodding off)
What tasks will be affected?
-Tasks depending on visual input
-Involving higher level of cognition
-Long duration missions - sleep debt (truck driver)
