Do now: It's a quick activity, lasting 5 to 10 minutes, given right at the start of class. It can be used to go over a concept taught recently or to check how well students understand a topic.
Captions:A picture is chosen and students write a caption for that image.
Journal writing: Students write on anything they want.
Exit tickets: They are an excellent way to wrap up the class. Students are asked to respond to a question about the class topic, list what they've learned, or write a one-sentence summary of a topic covered.
Modeled writing: The teacher controls the pen and composes and writes the text on her own. As she writes, she thinks aloud.
Interactive writing: Students and teacher compose the text together. The teacher begins by guiding the class to form a sentence.
Reader response: It is often used to get students writing as they read a text or after they have read it.
Memoir: Students are exposed to a variety of models, published by authors, teacher memoirs, and past or current student pieces.
Narrative/ short story: Short stories are often based in reality or taken from other texts. Poetry/imitation writing
Letter writing: Students can start with personal letters that narrate life experiences. Simple business letters to report problems.
