Noise
-
-
Reduce noise at source
Eliminate, substitute the source, modify the process,
Maintenance, Damping, Silencing
Interupt the pathway
Insulate, Isolate, absorbe
Information, Supervision,instruction, training
-
Physical Effects- Temporary reduction in hearing
Noise induced hearing loss (NIHL)
Tinnitus- persistent ringing
Inability to hear
Sound pressure measured in decibel
Intensity- Volume/ Loudness
Decibal- unit of sound pressure level
Frequency
A weighting or C
-
Lower exposure- carry out and record a noise assessment, provide ISIT, make hearing protection available, 80 dbA
Upper exposure- 85 dbA- Carry out and record a noise assessment
Reduce noise b means other than hearing protection
If still above 85 establish mandatory hearing protection zones
Provide ISIT
Provide hearing protection and enforce its use
Provide health surveillance
Health Surveillance- Id workers, remove/ exclude from high noise areas, rectify problem
