eorge Orwell was born as Eric Arthur Blair in
1903 in India.
He moved to England as a child.He was educated at
St.Cyprian’s
and then at
Eton College
. after school, he joined the
British police in Burma.
Orwell later returned to Europe and lived in poverty
He wrote about these experiences in his book
"Down and Out in Paris and London”.
He became famous for his books
"Animal Farm"
and
"1984."
"Animal Farm" uses animals to satirise the
Russian Revolution;
Orwell’s works warn about
the dangers of totalitarianism and the loss of personal freedoms
"1984" depicts a future with extreme government surveillance and control.
The novel describes a
future world
divided into
three blocks: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia
Oceania is ruled by
“the Party”
, which is led by an oppressive figure called
'Big Brother'.
In order to
control peoples lives
, the Party creates
Newspeak
, which is an invented language with a limited number of words, and threatens people through the
“Thought Police”.
