ENZYMES - Coggle Diagram
ENZYMES
Characteristics
- Enzymes remain chemically unchanged after reaction.
- Enzymes are required in minute amounts. Since they remain unchanged at end of reaction, they can be used over and over again.
- Enzymes are high specific. One type of enzyme can only catalyse one type of reaction.
- Enzymes are affected by temperature and pH. As enzymes are made of protein, they will be denatured at high temperatures and extreme changes in pH.
- Enzymes speed up chemical reactions, without enzymes, chemical reactions will proceed at rates that are too slow to sustain life.
