Friction

It always resists the motion, so extra energy is required to overcome it.

Friction produces wear and tear on the contacting surfaces. This reduces the life of machine parts, tyres and shoe soles.

Factors Affecting Friction :
Friction is dependent on the smoothness or roughness of the two surfaces that are in contact with each other. When the surface is smooth, the friction between the two reduces as there is not much interlocking of irregularities. While the surface is rough, friction increases.
Definition : Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other. Types of friction include dry, fluid, lubricated, skin, and internal
Types of friction : static friction, sliding friction, rolling friction, and fluid friction.
