SINGULAR Y PLURAL.
RULES: :
The first rule is very simple: to form the plural in English you have to add the suffix “s” to the noun. For example: “orange oranges”, “pen, pens”.
O añadir el sufijo “–es” si la palabra termina en “-ss”, “-x”, “-ch”, “-sh”: “dress – dresses”, “fox – foxes”, “bench – benches”, “dish – dishes”. Fácil, ¿verdad?
Another simple rule: if the word ends in “y” preceded by a consonant, you must add the suffix “es” and change the “y” to “i”: “cherry cherries”, “puppy puppies”.
However, if there is a vowel before the letter “y” (ey, ay, oy), only “s” is added and nothing else is changed: “monkey monkeys”, “toy, toys”, “day, days ”.
The following rule: when the word ends in a vowel + “o”, only “s” is added: “pistachio pistachios”, “stereo stereos”.
Words that end in “fe” or “f” have their own rule: change “fe/f” for a “v” and add “es”: “wife wives”, “knifeknives”, “loaf, loaves” .
For nouns that end in “ff”, only “s” is added. No other changes are made: “cliff cliffs”, “puff – puffs”.
