Inflammation of the vulva, or genitalia, is called vulvitis. The soft skin folds that encircle the vagina, such as the clitoris, labia minora (vaginal lips), and labia majora (outer folds), are together referred to as the vulva. An injury that irritates the skin, an allergic reaction, or an infection can all cause inflammation in the vulva.
