Believed he was above party politics
Wanted the best for Britain, not for the conservative party

Had a lack of knowledge on economic issues
Was anxious about making desicions

Helped reorganise the party and its policies
Was Chancellor in 51 - 55, seen as a possible leader after the resignations of Eden and Macmillan
Wasnt as popular in the tory party like he was with the rest of the country
Reputation was damaged after he introduced tax cuts
Was linked to appeasement
