Fuel type - Coggle Diagram
Fuel type
Fossil fuels
Advantages
Plentiful supply in some location
Extraction provides jobs
Existing technology: the fuel is availabe for most countries to use
Disadvantages
Carbon dioxide and toxic gases when burnt impact on climite change
Extraction causes damage to local area
Limites supply: prices will rise as the supplies get smaller
Nuclear power
Advantages
Does not produce carbon dioxide
small amount produce large amount of energy
Power plants employ lots of people
Disadvantages
Risk of radiation leakage impact on human health and enviroment
Cant be recycled
Limited supply
Biofuels
Advantages
Growing more plants uses carbon dioxide
A renewable source
Potentially a plentiful supply
Disadvantages
Carbon dioxide an other toxic gasses produce when burnt
A lot of land is needed to grow crops for fuel
Potential removal of natural ecosytems to grow fuel crops
Geothermal power
Advantages
Does not produce carbon dioxide
Unlimited supply as uses the heat from the earth as the power source
Disadavantages
Can be expesive to install
Only certein areas have sutiable conditions
Hydroelectric power
Advantages
Does not produce carbon dioxide
Water can be reused for other purposes
Disadvantages
Building of dams impmacts the natural flow of water
Villages and ecosystems may be destoryed when dams and reservoirs are built
Tidal power
Advantages
Does not produce carbon dioxide
Not dependent on weather conditions
Disadvantages
Limited to specific coastal coastal areas
Not effecient, large amount needed
