Global Warming
Definition
Global warming is the rise in Earth's average temperature due to human-made greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2)
Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet's overall temperature. Though this warming trend has been going on for a long time, its pace has significantly increased in the last hundred years due to the burning of fossil fuels. As the human population has increased, so has the volume of fossil fuels burned.
What causes Global Warming?
aspect of climate change which refers to the long-term rising earth´s temperatures
Human actions, like burning fossil fuels and deforestation, raise greenhouse gases, causing global warming
CO2 and other greenhouse gases trap reflected sunlight, warming the atmosphere
greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, causing the planet to warm up instead of allowing heat to escape into space
effects of the global warming
A slight average temperature rise is enough to cause a dramatic transformation.
Flooding represents one of the greatest dangers to human settlements.
Glacial ice also contributes significantly to the elevation in water surface level.
Warmer oceans cause more extreme weather including devastating storms, such as hurricanes. B. Hurrikane.)
Insects and pests might move to areas where they have never been detected before.
If all glaciers melted today, the seas would rise around 70 metres.
Animals that entirely depend on cold environments will retreat to more northern locations.
This will lead to many deaths among humans and already endangered animals.
What can we do against Global Warming?
Reduce, re-use, recycle
Buying products with minimal packaging will help to reduce waste.
Whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass, and aluminium. Cans.
Recycling is very important, but even better is re-using.
Plastic bags and plastic bottles can be used more than once.
Old clothing can be up and used as cleaning rags
Grocery bags can be re-used to line the rubbish bins.
Use less heat and air conditioning: Turn down the heat while you are sleeping at night, and keep temperatures moderate at all times.
Insulate: Adding insulation to your house´s walls and the attic can lower your heating costs by more than 25%
Use low-energy light bulbs and LEDs.
Compact fluorescent bulbs are designed to provide more natural looking light, while using far less energy than standard light bulbs.
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are becoming a great light source for the future, because they are more efficient and longer lasting than any other light bulb.
Drive less and drive smart.
Less driving means fewer emissions. Beside saving saving petrol, walking and biking are great forms of exercise. Use public transport or form carpools to get to school and work.
forms carpools
Use public transport
Buy using public transport you can reduce CO2 emissions
Buy energy efficient products
Home appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines, now come in a range of energy-efficient models.
When it is time to by a new car, choose one that offers good fuel consumption. Avoid products that come with excessive packaging.
buying products with minimal packing to reduce waste
Use less water
Take shorter showers or use low-flow shower heads to save hot water.
-Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, shampooing the dog, or washing the car.
Use the energy-saving setting on your dishwasher, and let the dishes air-dry.
Use the óff´switch
Save electricity by turning off lights when you leave a room. Never leave your television, video player, stereo, and computer on stand-by mode.
Plant a tree
By day, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
turn off lights
Fridays for Future
It isa global climate strike movement that started in August 2018 when the 15-year-old Great Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, began a school strike for climate.
Every Friday, thousands of students and youth in over 100 countries on all continents now strike from school, demanding that our politicians should
Keep the global temperature rise below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
Follow the Paris Agreement and ensure climate justice.
Listen to the best united science that is currently available.
The Carbon Footprint
Definition
The carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities, measured in carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e).
how to reduce it
use energy more efficiently (turn off lights)
reduce, reuse, recycle
choose sustainable transportation
consume less meat and dairy
carbon trading
Carbon trading is a market for buying and selling permits to emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, promoting emissions reduction and cleaner technology investment.
