Clay soils: heavy, high in nutrients
Sandy soils: light, dry, low in nutrients, often acidic
Slit soils: fertile, light but moisture-retentive
Peat soils: very high in organic matter and moisture
Chalky soils: very alkaline and either light or heavy
Loam (equal mix of sand, silt, and clay soil): most ideal for most garden plants as it has high water retention capacity and rich in minerals and nutrients (Larum, 2022)
