Sarcomere
Z disc
marks the ends of the sarcomere, joins all the thin actin filaments together
M line
-
marks the centre of the sarcomere, joins all the thick myosin filaments together
A zone
'Anisotrpic band' H-zone plus overlap between actin and myosin, length of myosin
-
-
-
The functional contractile unit of muscle fibres. a myofibril is made of many sarcomeres joined end to end

Types
Cardiac
Individual cardiomyoctes striped, and each is connected to its neighbours
-
-
-
-
Skeletal
Cells are striped and arranged as long, parallel fibres to make up the muscle
Attached to the skeleton, makes up the 'muscles' of the body
-

-
Muscle Fibres
Fast twitch
-
-
-
Adapted for short, explosive activity e.g. weightlifting

Tendons
Made of inelastic collagen and connective tissue so that when the muscle contracts, the force is transmitted to the bone, pulling it. If tendons were elastic they would stretch when the muscle contracted rather than moving the bone.
