Elements of Analysis
5.Setting
A setting is the geographical location and the time when the story takes place. It can also include the weather, historical, and political aspects of the location. The setting can be imaginary or realistic.
7.Characters
Analyze the characters in the story. What are their motivations, backgrounds, and relationships? How do they react to the speculative elements of the narrative, such as advanced technology or extraterrestrial encounters? Do they undergo any significant development or transformation throughout the story?
6.Atmosphere
Atmosphere is a specific device that a writer employs to help a reader experience feelings, emotions, and moods. The atmosphere is different than mood because it is a broader scope. Although both atmosphere and mood can change throughout a story, the atmosphere is the vehicle for the mood.
10.Explanation
By examining these elements of analysis, readers can gain a deeper appreciation of the themes, characters, and imaginative worlds presented in science fiction texts, as well as the broader implications they may have for understanding the human experience and the possibilities of the future.
