The people
AP 原文 及解析
1.The spread of maize cultivation from present-day Mexico northward into the present-day American Southwest and beyond supported economic development, settlement, advanced irrigation, and social diversification among societies.
The Maize played a crucial role in terms of agricultural developments, and would eventually connect tribes together, just like in the other ancient worlds.
2.Societies responded to the aridity of the Great Basin and the grasslands of the western Great Plains by developing largely mobile lifestyles.
Tribes in the great plains mainly went on a hunt and gathering lifestyle. They would prefer to follow flocks and herds of animals. It is also important to note that water resource is limited in the area, so people will have to move frequently
3.In the Northeast, the Mississippi River Valley, and along the Atlantic seaboard, some societies developed mixed agricultural and hunger-gatherer economies that favored the development of permanent villages.
Water resources are present (the Mississippi River), so people stayed at one place and settled down to create housing and villages. Hunting and Agriculture are both applied by the villagers
4.Societies in the Northwest and present- day California supported themselves by hunting and gathering, and in some areas developed settled communities supported by the vast resources of the ocean.
The ocean provided abundant resources, so the people here easily settles down and does not rely too much on agriculture.

The fall of the American Empires
The Aztecs
In 1519, Hernando Cortés landed in Mexico
He only took 2 years and conquered the Aztecs in 1521
The Aztecs were cruel to the other natives, so they rebelled and joined the Spanish troops (note that the Spanish are even more cruel)
Even though Cortés had only roughly 600 men, their muskets and cannons are dominant in the war
Malinche
People argued upon her. Helper to the cruel Spain, or the saver of natives?
Guided the Spanish troops through the empire
Helped to communicate between Spanish and other natives
Key Idea: Lured by rumors of gold and silver, conquistadors came to the Americas and colonized the place
Diseases
The Natives had No resistance in front of the diseases from the old world
Smallpox, measles, malaria and diseases brought by the colonists killed over 90% of the Americas' native population
The Incas
1532, Conquistador
Francisco Pizarro

Atahualpa
The Spanish troops ambushed the 30,000 mostly unarmed Incan soldiers by capturing Atahualpa

Pizarro then captured the Incan Capital, Cuzco, in 1533
