Weathering - Coggle Diagram
Weathering
Agents of weathering
•Ice-Water can get into rock cracks, leading to water freezing and creating ice inside of a rock
-
-
•Living organisms-The decaying remains of plants form carbonic acid, which can weaken/dissolve rocks
•Water-High temperature of water makes corrosive humidity, which results in unequal expansion and contraction of rocks
Types of weathering
-
•Biological-The process of breaking down rocks by the animals in the environment (chemical or physical change)
-
-
Effects of weathering
-
•Buildings and monument degradation-Stone can be broken down, causing a building/monument to collapse
•Soil formation-Rocks become broken down, leading to the mix between rocks and soil
Examples of weathering
-
•Oxidation-When oxygen combines with another substance, causing a change in colour of rocks(or rust)
-
-
-
•Protections-Coatings on buildings is a great example of prevention from weathering as it acts as a protective layer to the rocks
•Preventions-Controlled water flow can prevent water from getting anywhere near to rocks, unless rocks are below the water.
