The lungs are part of the respiratory system, they are located inside the thorax, protected by the ribs, and on both sides of the heart. They are hollow and covered by a double lubricated membrane called the pleura (which prevents the lungs from rubbing directly against the inner wall of the rib cage).

It allows us to obtain oxygen from the outside to incorporate it into the cells and expel the carbon dioxide that is produced as a result of cellular activity.
