American Football - Coggle Diagram

  - - - The goalposts are 10 feet high and 18.6 feet wide
  - - - In between the 2nd and 3rd quarter there is a half time of 12 minutes
  - - - Getting the 10 yards of progress is known as getting a first down
        
        They get this by either 'Running' the ball, where the player tries to dodge through the 'defence' players to gain ground or 'throw', where one player throws it to another over the 10 yards
        
        If the offense is unsuccessful in any of their 4 downs, the ball is given to the other team's offense players
        
        The possession can either change again in a 'fumble', where the ball is taken by a defensive player successfully, or a pass from player to player being intercepted, this being called an interception
- - - - If an attacker goes beyond the line of scrimmage or a defender goes across the line before the ball is snapped
      - 5 yard penalty
    - - When you grab onto a player's clothes so they can't tackle/run
      - 10 yard penalty if done by offense, 5 if by defence
    - - If the offense does not snap the ball before it's been 25 seconds
      - 5 yard penalty
    - - If a defence player makes contact to stop an offense player getting the ball or offense player pushes s defence player out of the way so they can get the ball
      - If defence, the ball is placed at the spot of the foul, and is an automatic first down. If offence, it's a 10 yard penalty
    - - If an offense player moves abruptly before the ball is snapped
      - 5 yard penalty
    - - If a penalty happens to both teams, they cancel each other out
      - If 2 penalties happen on the same team, the opposite team can decide which one will take more impact
- - - - They can either kicking another field goal for an extra point
      - Or take the ball 10 yards into the end zone for 2 points
- - - - Quarterback
        
        Team captain, normally the captain and calls decisions, when the Quarterback has the ball, they can do three things:
        
        Pass it back to the Running back
        
        Pass it wide to the wide recievers
        
        Run it themselves
      - Running Back
        
        Runs the ball down the field and intercepts and catches passes
      - Wide Reciever
        
        Finds routes downfield and catches the ball
      - Offensive Linemen
        
        They try to block the defence off for as long as they can to give the Quarterback time and give space for wide receivers and running backs to go through
    - - Defensive Linemen
        
        Rush the QB as quickly as possible, while trying not to be blocked by the OL
        
        A tackle in American Football is called a 'sack'
      - Line Backers
        
        Behind the DL, try to also rush the QB as well as the RB
      - Cornerbacks
        
        Either keep the WR in check or rush the QB as well
        
        If the DL, LB and CB all attack the QB at once, this is called a 'Blitz'
      - Safeties
        
        If the CB are rushing the QB, then they rush the WR
- - - - If the challenge is wrong, the coaches lose 1 of their 3 timeouts
      - If right, they don't lose a timeout and the down is replayed
