The Application of Justice
When the land was flooded the investigation showed that things mat have happened but the Tamihana Whanau ended up being told off for cleaning up
An investigation was held but this mostly consisted of a questioning of us and our observations and a criticism of our actions
So the enquiry showed that a dam has possibly been made, that a channel had possibly been deliberately formed... and that flooding had occurred but that was all
When the diggers were dumped in the sea and the building work was destroyed the investigation ended with the Tamihana Whanau members and friends in court
We were not believed. There was evidence, we gave help but were not understood and not believed. What we told you then was turned against us, was given after meaning
When the wharenui got burnt down the investigation implied that they did it themselves
Te Ope people were arrested for living on their land but nobody did anything about Pakeha using it
There was pictures of Ruben being arrested...
Fuck all the investigation. What did that show last time? Told us probably this, probably that... Fuck the enquiry. I knew what itll find. itll find we did it ourselves
When Te Ope finally got their land back they has to pay for the stand, which they were told by courts were improvements
The land is yours the courts said, but not the improvements. You will have to pay for the improvements, and they were told an amount of money that was impossible for them to pay
The government essentially stole their land for war purposes but didnt use it
Nothing legal was done to organise this
Letters were ignored and they were called liars
Later used as a sport field
Lower rent given in town but at further cost to Te Ope Whanau
We see you do not use the land. Why have we, the Maori people of Te Ope, given up our land... when you do not use it for purposes of war
I suggest you stick strictly to the facts if in the future you need to make further representations to this office

Schools alright for some but don't always find whats right for you
School only really represents pakeha
Thats all I learnt at school - that I'm not somebody that my ancestors were rubbish and I'm rubbish too
Manau felt like he didn't belong in school
He says there are cracks in the floor and the kids fizz like bees. He thinks he'll disappear
He says they're got no stories for him
Our mother Roimata made books for us and we had stories of our own
