Water - Coggle Diagram

- - - - if a place has a lot of rainfall, it will have more water available
      - if the temperatures in a place are high, water will evaporate faster, so there will be less water available.
    - - impermeable rocks let rain fall slide off them, where they will run into lakes and rivers. This water is easy to reach.
      - permeable rocks, such as limestone, allow water to flow through them, and water builds up inside them. The rocks become water stores, also known as aquifers. This water is harder to reach. If aquifers in these rocks are over abstracted, the rocks will start to sink lower, which can be a huge problem for any buildings on top of the rocks.
  - - - when water is taken from aquifers, groundwater levels fall. This means that the land subsidises, and if the water is being taken at a faster rate than it can be replenished, water becomes scarcer, meaning over-abstraction has taken place.
    - - untreated sewage and chemical wastewater from industry can pollute water, so that even if there is plenty of water, pollution has made it unsafe to drink.
    - - pipelines are needed to safely move water from one place to another, and if they are faulty or leaky, water can be polluted, or leak out. Pipes are expensive, and many rapidly urbanising areas do not have the time or money to lay the pipes they need.
    - - many people do not have the money to access safe, clean water, so they resort to other sources that are unsafe.
