Enzymes= Proteins that act as biological catalysts, they speed up metabolic reactions
-
-
-
They work better as the temperature increases because the molecules have more kinetic energy up until the optimum pH, after this the enzyme becomes denatured and no longer works as the active site has changed shape due to the bonds being broken
Work better at the optimum pH, extreme pH changes can denature it
Lock and key theory. The active site of the enzyme can only bind to the substrate, if the active site changes shape by becoming denatured it can no longer attach to the substrate

Digestive system. Turns large insoluble molecules into small soluble molecules which can be absorbed into the bloodstream
-
-
-
Stomach
Churns food (mechanical digestion) and contains hydrochloric acid which kills microorganisms on food and provides an optimum pH for protease

Food tests
Benedict Solution Test
Tests for protein starts as blue and then needs 5 minutes of heating and then will turn brick red (depending on the concentration of sugar)
Biuret Solution Test
Test for protein, goes from blue to purple if protein is present

Body creates new carbohydrates, proteins and lipids from the products of digestion and uses some of the glucose to release energy
