Clinical outcomes including psycho-social functioning, severity of symptoms, attainment of treatment goals and hospitalisations were assessed periodically over the three years of Carol's treatment and followed up after a year. The first phase involved the development of rapport, where the therapist and Carol built trust, respect and communication. They went on walks and the CBT sessions lasted from 15 minutes to an hour. In the second phase, Carol underwent the socialisation phase to understand CBT and the core of schizophrenia. In the early phase of treatment, Carol was taught better-coping strategies and relaxation techniques like meditation and learnt how to identify her symptoms. In the middle phase of treatment, Carol learnt how to cope with social situations and deal with the fear of relapsing. The ending phase involved maintaining everything Carol had learnt. A year after this a follow-up was carried out.
