History Year 9
Nazi Germany
Basic Info
Between 1919 and 1933, Germany was in a state of disrepair. Uprisings were common and after a small state of success, it collapsed in 1929 during the Great Depression. The government in power was democratic and supported progressive ideas.
The two main contenders to take power in Germany were the Communists and Nazis. But after some violence and rigging, the Nazis gained power
The Ideal Nazi Family
The Ideal Nazi Family would ideally have specific roles for each member of the household. There were some general thoughts too. For example, An ideal Nazi German citizen would have blonde hair and blue eyes, be white, Christian and follow Nazism. However, as mentioned earlier, they also had specific roles too
Father
A Family man, but ideally working lots and having a productive mindset
Mother
A housewife, has lots of kids (4+) and always with the kids
-
Sons
Learning how to work from the father and member of the Hitler Youth, the Young Nazi youth group for boys
Daughters
Learning how to mother children and too soon be a housewife, ideally a member of the League of German Maidens

The Von Schlieffen Plan
Basics
In 1905, Alfred Graf von Schlieffen devised a plan to fight France and Russia at the same time. In this he made a lot of assumptions. These were:
Russia would be weak
This was correct, mainly down to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-5
-
-
-
The Actual Plan
-
Afterwards, he planned to turn his attention to Russia, who he thought wouldn't have mobilised by then
The Result
von Schlieffen eventually failed due to multiple failed predictions e.g. Britain would be neutral and Russia would be incompetent in mobilising. He also failed on the pure fact that it was 1905, 9 years before hand and a lot could clearly happen in those 9 years

Battle of the Somme
Background
The Battle of the Somme never necessarily had a winner, both sides being decimated in the process, but is perhaps one of the most bloody and biggest British military mess-ups in history , showing the complete incompetence and disregard of human life from the commanders
What went wrong
Due to bad communication, someone set off a landmine early, warning the Germans of an attack
-
The artillery shot by the British missed the Germans, leaving them in completely undamaged trenches
They walked out towards the German trenches in a line, not breaking ranks, making them sitting ducks
What was learnt
What was learnt from the incompetence of the British commanders was really that they were incredibly attached from the value of human life. Sir Douglas Hague was the mastermind of the British cock-up during the battle and was therefore remembered as one of the worst British commanders of all time
The Treaty of Versailles
Basic info
The Treaty of Versailles was a document signed by the three main allies at the end of the war: Britain, France and the USA. It was the plan to punish Germany and how to do so. Germany was not invited

MAIN reasons for WWI
MAIN is an acronym for:
Alliances
The Triple Entente and Triple Alliance had very different alliances, supporting opposite sides in war e.g. Entente supported Serbia while the Alliance supported Austria-Hungary
Large amounts of countries had made alliances in Europe, and one lit match could easily light a fuse for a full blown war
Imperialism
There was a large amount of muscle flexing in the means of colonial and imperialistic power in thee 1910s
The fighting had stretched to fighting in Europe, with Britain and Germany prepared to fight for land in Africa
Military
-
Battle Plans
Most countries had already drawn up battle plans in case of quick, offensive action, showing they already had a feeling this could happen
Wars beforehand
In the bast 10 years their had been multiple military conflicts e.g. The Balkan Wars, Moroccan Crisis, showing rising tensions
Nationalism
Nationalism was on the rise in Europe in the 1910s, especially the Balkans
The man who shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a Serbian nationalist upset at Austria-Hungary's control over his home country
