An example of energy change occurs when a ball is thrown up in the air as the balls kinetic energy is transferred to its gravitational field store.

Kinetic Energy is energy of motion. The kinetic energy of a moving object depends upon its mass and speed. Kinetic Energy is a scalar quantity, which means that it has a magnitude but no direction.

Particle Model of Matter
As a solid substance is heated the bonds between its atoms are weakened and the solid melts into a liquid
These bonds between particles aren't like the covalent or ionic bonds in chemistry rather they are forces of attraction between particles.
The particle theory states that particles are small, inelastic spheres and it details how particles act in each matter - Solid, Liquid and Gas.
In solids, strong attractive forces hold the particles in place, so that they can only vibrate in position. As the substance is heated the particles gain energy and vibrate faster and faster. Eventually, the particles have so much energy that they can overcome the forces holding them together and thesubstance melts into a liquid.
