BIOLOGY EOY 9
Plant and Animal Cells
-
MRS GREN
-
-
-
R= Reproduction
Able to give out new living species (e.g: children, cubs, saplings)
-
E= Excretion
Releasing waste (e.g.: Carbon Dioxide, Urine or Faecal matter)
-
Cells types definitions
Unicellular= made of only one cell (e.g.: Bacteria, Yeast)
Multicellular= Made of multiple cells (e.g. Humans, other living cells)
Cell organelle types
Animal Cell
Nucleus
Contains genetic info on chromosomes which are made into DNA,
-
Cell Membrane
Decides what enters and leaves the cell (partially permeable, meaning only some substances can enter)
-
Mitochondria
Site of aerobic respiration, turns glucose/oxygen into energy
-
Plant cells
-
-
-
Cell Wall
Made of cellulose, protects cells and gives it structure
-
-
Chloroplasts
Contains Chlorophyll, site of photosynthesis
-
-

Microscopes
Light microscope
A light microscope is a very basic microscope used to look at smaller objects which are are on less than 2000 times magnification
-
Electron microscope
An electron microscope is a very advanced microscope used to look at small objects over 500,000 times magnification

Culturing microorganisms
Bacteria multiply by simple cell division (binary fission) as often as once every 20 minutes if they have enough nutrients and a suitable temperature
