primary sources/ initial research
photography
what will you take pictures of?
key subject features
where will you take the pictures?
how will you take the pictures?
when will you take the pictures?
day/ night
it would be interesting to take the pictures as night as it shows the bright city lights, which are used to light up the city.
seasons/ weathers
weather can be used as an interesting way of expressing ones feelings and expressions eg rainy can connote to being miserable and dull, while sunny can connote to being content, similarly seasons can be seen from the same aspect eg spring represents new life growth and a fresh start.
who will you take pictures of?
models and humans but considering my project which circles around man made built features eg buildings
observational drawings
still eye/ life
objects and subjects eg people, models
sketching or working from the source
secondary sources
art galleries and museums
compositions with objects which are found
secondary sources are not first hand and usually is research completed by a different person other than yourself.
techniques
rule of thirds
it requires to be an off centre balance and depends how the objects and subjects are placed and where the main focal point of the image is and it considers both the interior and exterior elements of a photo.
symmetry
i can consider symmetry while taking my primary photoshoot by making the image identical on each square, organised, pleasing, peaceful (in order) mirror images, this would fit perfectly with my theme of architecture and urban decay as it works well with built-up and man-made environments.
patterns and textures (quality of the different surfaces)
mainly repetition (shape and colour), rough and smooth textures, flat, reflections, shiny and dull/ brittle surfaces.
you can make it more meaningful by disrupting the pattern and breaking it to represent the themes of breaking mind control.
unusual viewpoints
abstract photography
fragmentation and distorting which is used to make the subject of the image less visible to the audience eg on way can be closeups and there is a great emphasis on the use of spaces, visual elements, shape and the texture.
leading lines (eyes are led through with a perspective)
mainly effective when it leads the eye to a focal point eg an alley way or the end of a street, it has to lead the eyes back to the subject of the photo, there could be a use of unusual viewpoints.
