A sturdy frame that could potentially by 3D printed, or the acrylic could be used. Ensure that the components inside don't rattle.
Cliffs
An ultrasonic sensor on the bottom of the rover could detect how deep a certain cliff or whole is and turn around if it is grater than a certain distance.
