Nadia and Saeed relationship goes through a lot change in this book. Instead of following the typical romance novel love stories the book shows cause that romance can evolve as people evolve and change does not have to apocalyptic. Nadia and Saeed do not end up together but they also do not cut each other out of their lives

Go Went, Gone: Erpenbeck talks about borders between people are borders physicals borders between lands. She emphasizes how inconsistent the physicals borders.
Physical: "But the inhabitants of this territory - which has only been called Germany for 50 years - are defending their borders with articles of law, they assail these newcomer with their secret weapon called time"
The idea of Germany and government and borders that make Germany is not only a fairly new idea but its has an idea that has caused so much pain and sufferings people.
People: "When taking all these possible borders into consideration, it seems to Richard that the difference between one person and another is in fact ridiculously small"
Richard realizes that the things that divided people are superficial idea and when you remove the stereotypes we are all just people who were given random chances.
Exit West: Hamib makes the point that how people teach borders is effected by the level of privilege they have experience.
On page 164 Saeed express that when millions of people immigrated to their home county they did not mind to which Nadoe replies with "That was different. Our country was poor. We didn't fell we had as much to loose"
When people are blessed with privilege they often come very hostile and country's are the same way. They cling to the idea of nationalism and they worry so much about an idea of what their county should look like they turn away to people struggling.
The Vegetarian: The borders put up here are relationship between male and female in the family setting. These lines that determine how a women and can and can not act. And what a man can get away with.
Kafka on the Shore: Murakami experiment with the borders between reality and fantasy The moment where Kafka rapes his sister in her dream is a example of this. Although this did not technically happen he was in control his actions and thoughts.
