The 10th amendment supported states rights because it the federal government doesn't do anything then it is left for the states to decide.
The Fugitive slave act was upset over the Northern abolitionist because they wanted to free the slaves instead of capturing them and returning them.

Enslaved people were discriminated against because they couldn't have legal rights, could not vote, and were not able to leave the institution.
The abolitionists were extensions of the church to fight against the institution of the enslavement of people.
