Aarne- Thompson- Uther
Aarne- Aarne contributions to A,T,U was the historic method of comparative folkloristic.
Thompson- He went into further depth of the classification system and revised it in 1928, making it a much more broad subject. He translated it from German to English which made the "AT" portion also called the "AT Number System"
Uther- He added tales from the eastern and southern Europe

Purpose
A Catalogue of folktale stories allows researchers to understand the structure of folktales. A,T,U is an index and a Reference for folklore studies and folktales.
Motifs: Within the different folklore categories there are motifs which are classified by different letters , which makes things easier to find stories.
