Bays and Headlands
Headlands and bays are formed through the process of coastal erosion caused by the action of waves on the coastline. Over time, the waves erode the rock and soil along the coast, which can create areas of varying resistance to erosion. This results in the formation of headlands (more resistant rock) and bays (less resistant rock).

Longshore Drift
Longshore drift is the process where materials are moved along the coastline. Waves approach the coast at an angle. Swash carries sediment up the beach at an angle. Backwash carries sediment down the beach with gravity – at right angles to the beach.

I personally would like to defend a coast with rock armor and gabions in front of a large sea wall. The rock armor and gabions protect the sea wall, but when they erode, the sea wall is a contingency until they can build more. If the sea wall is too expensive, it is not neccesary.
