Attitudes towards errors have changed. Behaviorist: avoidance. Now: tolerance. CLT: fluency practice, so errors may be uncorrected temporarily. Does not mean they don't matter.

EAT: collection of samples of errors, analysis and classification. Corder:
Mistake: performance error, random guess, slip.
Error: deviation from grammar of native speaker, interlanguage competence. Lack of knowledge.
Errors: provide evidence of how L is learned, of strategies.
