Othello's religion has been converted from Muslim to Christian. This could be to emphaise all parts of his life being manipulated and chnaged because of Venetian society.
Race
Black had negative conntotations of evil and closeley linked to the devil or only fitted to be slaves especially in renissance dramas. Shakespeare therefore subverts this view and makes Othello the first black hero however has a tragic fall.
Geohumarism: Black African males get more violent quickly. seen through Othello after becoming manipulated by Iago. Lustful, Murdurous, Barbaric.
Outsider: Due to Othello's race, he is an outsider despite his militarial status
Gender
Women were married off by their fathers and therefore this is why Barbantio was shocked by the news of Desdemona's marriage (especially to a Moor)
Women's reputations were based on their fidelity and chastity. With the Christian beliefs of the time, women were supposed to wait until marriage hence Othello's reaction to Desdemona's supposed infedelity

Interracial couples were seen as unnatural and scandalous. Desdemona's marriage challenges societal expectations and views.
