Should we use animals for scientific tests?
History and Background
Galen, a physician in 2nd-century Rome, dissected pigs and goats
Drug testing using animals became important in the twentieth century.
The Roman period is infamous for the cruelty to animals
Animals have been used repeatedly throughout the history of biomedical research
In 2008, it was discovered that animal testing is not accurate, and scientists had doubts on its predictive value.
Argument #2 - It's expensive and time consuming
It also takes a lot of effort to maintain the animals, and the protocols associated with it.
A test on a single disease may cost thousands or even millions of dollars.
Some tests take many months or years or even decades to analyze.
Thesis Statement
Animal testing should not be legal because animals are being tortured, and forced to do experiments against their will. And, it doesn't even benefit humans because most of the time, the testing isn't even that accurate because it takes many years or decades to analyse, therefore, the results may be misleading.
Instead of testing products on animals, I suggest that maybe we could make some kind of AI robot, that reacts the same to products as humans, so we could test it on robots instead of on innocent animals.
Specialised Info
About 92% of experiments done on animals fail and are ineffective.
Animal testing violates the rights of animals.
Argument #1 - Animal testing isn't even accurate enough
These experiments on animals don't accurately mimic how the human body reacts to these medications
Animals are different from humans, so, they react differently, therefore, the test is not accurate.
There are many diseases that humans get and animals do not.
Argument #3 - it's not good for the animals
They are subjected to painful and even sometimes deadly experiments.
97% of animals are killed using animal testing.
Animals are forced to live in unclean and small habitats
Hook
“I wish that medical researchers who experiment on animals would experiment on humans to try to find a cure for their insensitivity to the suffering of animals.” “The price is never right on products tested on animals.”
Put yourself in the animals shoes, how would you feel if you were experimented on against your will?
