Produce a garment to be worn to a special event:
Appearance/Aesthetics
Must be displayed in an aesthetic and saleable way
Must fit the clients colour palette that is chosen as late as possible to make the garment as desirable as possible as close to the event as possible to prevent style changes.
It needs to fit the aesthetic of a ball, take inspiration of previous garments from may ball
Investigate different styles of garment to find the most flattering one for my client.
Materials
Mae sure the material is good quality
Material needs to be either breathable or light weight for comfort
Must not feel uncomfortable on thhe skin
Should be washing machine appropriate
Environment
Take into consideration that the client will walk to the main entrance of the building, will dance inside the main hall and wil most likely get photos taken and spend time on the glass so the garment must be suitable for all these environments.
Also need to consider the environmental impacts that creating a garment has and should use green techniques and materials
Quality
I will test the quality of various stitching throughout the experimenting process by stretch testing the materials.
I will make sure i test the design at all points in the creation process so that it moves and fits in the correct way and so that it will be strong enough to be re used.
Function/Purpose
To fit in with the prom aesthetic
To provide comfort for the full event
To be suitable to be worn to other events in the future
To fit the client perfectly and feel custom made
To reduce the among of fast fashion bought
Budget friendly
Age appropriate
Scale of production
The method of production will be hand made and will only be using machinery that can be purchased for household use such as a sewing machine and potentially a laser cutter..
For this product i will be using one off production as it is bespoke for the individual client.
Budget
The idea behind this garment is to be budget friendly as that is a rare occurrence in prom dresses
Following my survey people spent up to over £600 and there weren’t many dresses purchased in the £100 or lower category
My client is not prepared to spend over £100 on the garment
Time Scale
The garment needs to be made to the deadline of the A-level coursework rather than that of the prom. The course work is due in march so i aim to have it completed before the end Of February so that there is spare time to make needed alterations and get client feedback. This is around 4 months before the dress will actually be worn.
Finished by end of February 2024
Safety
Ensure there are no sharp edges on the dress that could get caught
Remove any trip hazards from the garment such as excess dangling threads
Avoid long neck pieces as they are a common choking hazzard
Human Factors
I will be required to measure the anthropometrics of my client so the garment is bespoke to their body and so the maximum level of comfort is reached out of it.
The ergonomics will be taken into account if i decide i add boning to the garment or if the garment is figure hugging as it’ll need to follow the shape of my clients body.
I may also need to measure the size of the IDo window display as if my garment were to be sold i would need it to be diplayed with my professional’s business.
I should also look at different sizes of my clients storage potentials as i do not want to make the garment so big that it will have to get forced into a storage place.
