Concrete Operational
Goal: Logical thinking
Children begin to understand the concept of conservation- understanding that although things change in appearance, certain properties stay the same

Preoperational Stage
Goal: Symbolic Thought
Thinking is egocentric and intuitive.
Children carry out mental operations that allow them to think logically
Sensorimotor Stage
Goal: Object Permanence (Developed at 8 months)
Focusses on physical sensations and learning to coordinate its body

Used Rhesus Monkeys and put it in a closed environment with fake mothers on that provided food and one that provided comfort
Strengths
Proves the contact, comfort theory
Humans have similar qualities to monkeys
Limitations
Was conducted in a controlled, artificial laboratory setting
Ethics
Caused concern on ethical grounds as it caused distress for the baby Rhesus monkeys as they were taken away from their biological mothers.
Forms of attachment

Avoidant attachment
Tend to feel uncomfortable with intimacy and try to sort out their problems by themself instead of seeking suport
Secure attachment
The healthiest form of attachment.
People with a secure attachment have a healthy relationship with emotional intimacy
Anxious attachment
Crave any form of initimacy and fear abandonment. People with this attachment tend to mistrust their relationships and result in pushing them away
