Construction

Poor project management

Damage to equipment and tools

Water intrusion

Leaving tools out

lack of care for tools

The usage over time

repairs not being good enough

lack of equipment needed

Material deprivation

untrained staff

lack of care to materials

poor project planning

no thought to future conditions

tools rot and become weak

waste of materials and costs being high

This would be a problem because this would put delays on the project and productivity would be down due to constant trips to get the correct equipment which is why there is a design opportunity where there is a way to ensure that the project management is done efficiently to maintain productivity.

training staff is important in construction as it is a dangerous environment to work in, there are many recorded incidents of workers being injured due to not having sufficient training. more specifically when using powered tools such as saws drills and other wasting prosses tools. This is a design opportunity because it would mean that for potential internships the untrained staff would be trained due to a new provided training system that is efficient for individuals in the construction industry.

due to issues with trades it has become more expensive and problematic for individuals working in construction especially Brexit, which has stopped/ complicated trades through Europe, a way to source materials for themselves would be helpful and more affordable for workers and project planners

This is important because there have ben many cases of injury from tools not being to the best standard, there should be a good storage aspect of the tools to avoid the weakening of the tools from weather conditions.

over time the tools will become week through the usage of them, if there were a way to show how safe a tool is such as in checks that can be done for tools to stop there being any injuries due to broken tools

Theft of tools and materials

not being able to track

storage being broken into

leaving tools out

weather conditions

weather conditions such as rain have the ability to cause tools to rot, this is problematic because this could cost construction companies a lot of money over a year of construction, so a way to prevent this would be efficiant.

tools that aren't treated correctly would be harmful to the workers due to improper usage and also be expensive to the company, this is why training is so important, to reduce this improper use there should be a way to show workers the proper usage

leaving tools out could lead to them being rained on, this links to weather conditions but this could be more problematic because it would lead to workers stepping on sharp tools such as screws and nails, a way to prevent this could be haveing a storage unit where nothing is left outside or chucked under a peice of wood to never be found.

This is a major cause to tool theft because this lack of care to the tools would leave them out to be either damaged or taken both of witch would result in the need of a replacement

In construction when work has stopped the workers would clean the area - as in putting away tools and having the correct places for everything, this helps improve productivity but having tools in a tool box is efficient for the workers, theft of tools is an issue and if the workers aren't fussed by storing the tools away correctly this is problematic as spending money on new tools is expensive and there should be a way to ensure that all tools are stored away correctly

tool theft and the misplacement of tools is a major problem as these two points suggest but the ability to track these tools would enable the workers to locate individual tools or tool boxes. despite that this would be an expensive adaptation to tools but the overall cost of not having to replace tools would be covered.

the care of materials is important as in using the right coats of primer or not leaving it out in poor weather conditions to rust or rot and a way to ensure that these materials are kept in the best condition would help the construction industry spend less money on replacements of materials.

project planning is important to water intrusion because if a project manager decides to ship in all the tools and materials in one day then there wont be enough storage for them and they would be left out to grow weaker which is why this is an important factor.

this links back to the lack of care of materials and how construction projects go over budget and they would need to keep everything in the best condition to avoid needing constant replacements.

the rotting of tools can be done through water intrusion which is when water would leak inthe handels of the tools and become week and inevitable be in need or replacement, an obvious solution would be to upgrade the tools to not have wooden handles and be more polymer or metal based tools.

future conditions such as rain and how if a worker would assume that the weather would not rain or snow or be a potential storm and then this would mean that the tools and materials would not be stored away correctly due to this.
