POSITIVE CHARACTERISTICS
appear after development of SZ (added behaviours)
two characteristics
delusions and their types
persecution - belief in being harmed by external forces (e.g. family, organisations)
grandiosity - belief that one is special/ hold a special identity
reference - environmental stimuli communicating hidden messages
delusions are beliefs that aren't real, and often don't have any evidence to support
hallucinations
perceptions that aren't real
auditory - things that are heard but aren't there
tactile - physical sensations that aren't there
visual - seeing things that don't exist in reality
NEGATIVE CHARACTERISTICS
appear before the first episode
initial symptoms are known as the prodromal period
five main
avolition - losing interest/ motivation, including things they enjoy
anhedonia - inability to feel pleasure
alogia - reduced amount of speech due to impairment associate with language abilities
flat effect - diminished emotional expressions/ facial expressions
catatonic behaviour - varied bodily movements, varying from fast to extremely slow, to mimicking surrounding behaviour (echopraxia)
