During the Middle Ages, men and women decided to step forward as Monks and Nuns, and devoted their life to the Church. They did this for a number of reasons that included fulfilling promises to do God’s work, to lead a life other than that of a wife and mother, and to be free from the worries of the world. When they joined the Church, the Monks and Nuns day was dominated by prayer, and they carried out tasks such as praying for others, education, and looking after the sick.
