Unit 7 Bio
Natural Selection: The idea of "survival of the fittest." The organisms who are best able to adapt to their environment are more likely to survive and pass down the traits that helped them survive. It needs variation, adaptation, differential survival/reproduction, and inhertitance

-
Convergent: 2 species evolve to be very similar in structure because of being in similar environments.
Coevolution: Species evolve in a partnership of symbiotic reltaionship which both survive off of eachother.
-
Homologous Structures: Similar in structure and layout, but bone size and shape may be different.
Analogous Structure: Similar in function, but not necessarily in structure.
Vestigial Structure: In the organism because of ancestry, but has no actual use.
Homologous Structure:
-
Microevolution: small changes that occur over a short period of time, they actually evolve after a long period of time. there are 4 causes to Microevolution
-
Macroevolution: These are changes that allow for new species to develop, ones that can reproduce with those in their poopulation.
-
More UV radiations: More UV= more melanin, less folate, less variation in MC1R, and insuffient Vitamin D.
Less UV Radiations: Less melanin, more folate, more variation in MC1R, and sufficient Vitamin D.
-
Evidence for Evolution:
Anatomy: Species share similar physical features because the feature was present in a common ancestor
