Science Stage 9
Unit 1: Photosynthesis and the Carbon cycle
1.1: Photosynthesis
Key words:
Chlorophyll
Light intensity
Photosynthesis
How plants make food:
Plants make food by photosynthesis
In photosynthesis, plants use:
water, which is from the soil
Carbon dioxide, which is from the air
Energy, whish is from the sunlight
The energy from the sunlight is capture in chlorophyll (a green pigment inside the leaf)
Word equation for photosynthesis
Water + Caron dioxide -> Glucose + Oxygen
Why is photosynthesis important
Provide energy in the form of chemical energy
Produce oxygen
Carbohydrate in food chains
1.2: More about photosynthesis
Key words:
Fertiliser
Stomata
yeild
Chloroplast and clorophyll
Clorophyll is inside cloroplast (which is where the photosynthesis happens)
Inside a leaf
Photosynthesis produce oxygen(gas) there is stomata in the bottom side of the leaf so that the gas defuses out.
The water is trensfered up to the leaf by the xylem vessel (a dead cell)
Minerals and plant growth
Magnesium: to produce more chlorophyll to capture energy from sunlight for photosynthesis
Nitrate: help plant convert carbohydrate to protein
1.3: The Carbon cycle
Key words:
The carbon cycle
Carbon and living organism
Carbon is in diamonds/leads in penil
Carbon in living organism in not a element but a compound like carbohydrate
1.4: Climate change
key words:
slush
mass extinction
meteorites
meteoroide
meteior
Unit 2: Properties of material
