LO1 - Hazards, Impacts of Hazards, Harm and Abuse.
Types of Hazards:
Environmental, biological, chemical, psychological, physical, musculoskeletal, working condition, working practice and lack of security.
Some examples: worn floors, wet floors (environmental) used bandages and needles (biological) cleaning materials (chemical)
Potential Impacts: injury and harm, financial loss, illness, poor standard of care
Harm and Abuse: intentional, unintentional, effects of abuse
Types of setting: health, social, child, public, transport
What is a hazard: A hazard is a potential source of harm or adverse health effect.
What is a Risk: The probability of harm – The chance of somebody being harmed by the hazard as well as how serious that hazard could be.
What is Harm: Physical or psychological damage or injury to a person or people. For example, a consultant speaking to an individual in a patronising manner, a carer denying an individual medication or a foster carer shouting at and intimidating a child.
