Location
Low lying coastal plains, located in the south west of the uk in the county of somerset
Several rivers such as Tone and Parrett flow through the somerset levels
Prone to flooding but still includes lots of agriculture and settlements
Natural causes of 2014 floods
Location: bottom of a basin with the sides being the Quantock and Mendip hills
Rain: 350mm of rain in Jan and Feb there was also (100mm more than usual)
High Tides: Higher sea levels due to high tides and storm surges this prevented the water from draining into the sea

Human causes of 2014 flodds
Dredging: rivers were full of sediment as they had not been dredged so they could hold less water
development: the development on the flood plain which means there is less saturation on the soil
