Horses
There are many different horse breeds in the world. Some well known and mentioned breeds are
Quarter Horse
Thoroughbred
Arabian
Standardbred
Shetland Pony
Horses favourite food
Grass
Hay, especially alfalfa hay
Concentrates
Fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, apples, strawberries, bananas, and peppermints.
Some horses favourite discipline are
Dressage
Show jumping
Eventing (a combination of dressage, show jumping, and cross country)
Barrel racing
Horse racing
Different tack for different events: Dressage
English saddle (dressage saddle is required at higher levels)
Bridle with a simple Caveson or a drop nose or a flash Caveson
Simple snaffle bit (upper levels may use a double bridle with a bradoon with a curb bit if needed)
English riding:
Halter: a nylon, cotton, or leather rope or strap attached the head gear to lead or to tie the horse.
Cross-tie: used to secure the horse during grooming or saddling, attached to the D-rings at each side of the halter.
Bridle: Consists of three parts:
Stirrups: iron frames where the rider’s feet rest, attached to the saddle by stirrup leathers.
Different horse breeds
Draft horses/Cold-blooded: These are workhorses and have been used throughout history for pulling plows and ranch and farm chores.
Light horses/Hot blooded: Thoroughbred.
Warm-blooded horses: Warm-blooded horses display the grace of hot-blooded horse breeds like Thoroughbreds and the strength of cold-blooded breeds.
Gaited horses.
Color breeds.
Different horse colours are black, bay, chestnut, sorrel, brown, dun, buckskin, gray, pinto (or Paint), spotted, roan, and palomino.
