Surface area has a proportionate and disproportionate affect, and is specific to the aircraft type and intention. For lesser payloads, longer distances and more lift across lesser speeds, a larger surface area is required for greater lift generation under minimal propulsion, such as gliders (GlobeAir AG, 2024). However, larger planes such as fixed wings and fighters require less surface area for more speed and agility as well as range.
