Reptiles - cold blooded - scaly - lay eggs
Technology - Investigate, Design, Make. Evaluate, Communicate
Turtles - create only the outer shell which is what is synonymous to being a turtle. Materials provided caps, egg cartons, board, paper, glue, scissors
Crocodilia - make a crocodile using mainly items from nature eg leaves big and small
Squamata - make a snake from salt dough, dry and decorate, test why we cannot keep them in cold (ice)
Rhynococephalia - imagine you lived when dinosaurs lived, sketch and paint any specie that you think was part of this group
History - create a time line
Rhynchocephalians lived alongside dinosaurs 60 million years ago and became extinct with only Tuatara surviving
Squamata are super old fossils show they originated about 290 million years ago
They all had legs and about 90 million years ago their legs disappeared completely (evolution process)
Crocodilia originated over 200 million years ago and were marine crocodiles (lived only in water) they were huge monsters of the sea, they became extinct with the dinosaurs, thereafter we only have semi-aquatic crocodiles (live on land and water)
Turtles meiolania turtle was a giant turtle about 3.7m longs weighing 3 tons and lived about 235 million years ago
Geography - create homes for each category based on the information provided
Habitat: Crocodilia - found in subtropics Africa, Asia, America, Australia
Squamata: snakes and lizards, over 9000 species found throughout the world, besides Antartica
HABITAT: turtles - turtles are water bound ( fresh and salt water) sea, river, lakes, warm and cold waters - tortoise (land dwelling) warm land areas, will die in extreme cold as it needs external warmth
Tuatara only found in New Zealand because it separated from other continents about 80 million years ago
Natural science 4 Categories of reptiles - prepare meal plates for each category after thoroughly discussing and exploring information about each category
Crocodilia - crocodiles, alligators, caiman & gaivals (semi aquatic, large, strong jaws and sharp teeth) only carnivore
1.testudines - turtles ( reptiles with shells) mainly herbivore while a few species can be omnivores
Squamata - lizards and snakes (lizards without legs) herbivore, insectivore, omnivore and carnivore
Rhyncocephalia - tuatara (the only 1 in its order) lizard like reptile, they are omnivores
