main character becomes close friends with rich new student, finds out a lot of things about them. suddenly, one day they go missing from school, and their mother comes to school, and everyone realizes new student disappeared
main character tries to call a detective to help, her father (lawyer) has a lot of trusted associates because he works in this job industry
father recommends a well-known detective company, its very expensive but it has helped solve many major cases
decides to use her own money to pay for the detective who begins his investigation by searching the penthouse
the detective searches the penthouse, and finds letters in the mother's room which all point to her hiring someone to kidnap her son, and finds a lot of rope, duct tape etc. (sterotypical) and decides to interrogate the mother, then reaches the conclusion that the mother is guilty
the character trusts the detective and his conclusions, the second day the mother says she killed the victim and goes to jail, two decades later it was in the news that the detective actually kidnapped the victim and starved him to death (ending)
the character decides not to trust the detective (something is off), and decides to investigate themselves, sneaks into their office to get their notes (connections), but finds out the detective doesn't actually have a table at the 'office' he works at
asks the detective the next day, to which he replies that he is new and the company is short on budget, thus he shares a table, however the detective seems mad and tells the character not to go to his office anymore as it is private and he would be fired
listens to the detective and the day later the mother says she killed the victim and goes to jail, two decades later it was in the news that the detective actually kidnapped the victim and starved him to death (ending)
doesn't tell the detective, continues to investigate and finds out that he doesn't have a detective license either (from father), and starts to suspect his decision making and decides to investigate herself (same outcome)

hacks into FBI and finds that there is no such person, everything matches up with the victims father -> sneaks into the penthouse of the victim, but the elevator is broken, while taking the stairs finds a secret elevator which leads to the basement of the penthouse, enters the basement and finds victim
hears footsteps, decides to take the last chance and save the victim, meets detective on the way out, he has a shotgun in his hand, doge bullets while escaping, trip, victim gets out, you get shot while being dragged out by victim

goes to the penthouse of the victim, finds out in the mothers drawer there is photos of the detective and her together, and journal entries that state he was unemployed, begins to suspect the detective has done something to the son (same outcome)
tells her father what happened, he (because of his connections) is able to hire the detective for free, and the detective begins to search the penthouse (same outcome)
main character decides to not tell anyone about finding help (police already on the scene), and privately goes to hire a detective herself
finds a well known detective company, very expensive but has solved many cases (same outcome)
a detective comes looking for her, saying he is from a well known company which has solved many cases, and is welcome to help her (same outcome)
